Description
In many commercial and industrial applications, electric motors are required to be controlled from a central location. This is achieved through a Motor Control Center (MCC). MCCs provide an efficient way to connect motor control and power distribution in a compact package.
A typical MCC includes:- Motor starter
- Fuses or circuit breakers
- Disconnecting device
- Common bus bar for power distribution
- Conductor entrance areas for load and control wires
- Optional devices like voltmeters, ammeters, selector switches, pushbuttons, and indicator lights
Various types of electric motor starters are utilized to control motors. A basic AC motor control involves using a contactor and an overload relay. The contactor's contacts are used to start and stop the motor electromechanically, while the overload relay protects the motor by disconnecting power in case of overloads
